The Lake Isle of Innisfree Poem Summary

The lake Isle of Innisfree is one of the early poems of Nobel Laureate W.B. Yeats. His early poems are romantic in nature and style. There we find longings, dreams and wish fulfillment.

The present poem is a nature lyric in which the poet has expressed his earnest desire to go away from the weary world of tension and anxiety to the peaceful and beautiful island of Innisfree, a lake near his native place.

The poet wants to build a cottage of clay and wattles and plant rows of beans. He will also put up a hive for honey-bees and enjoy the tranquility that his heart has been longing for long.

Peace would descend with the morning mist; noon would be most pleasant and in evenings, the linnets returning to their nests would most enchanting. He would be listening to the lapping lake waters, feeling his mind and heart with peace and bliss.

The poet is nostalgic of the Peaceful rural life of Innisfree tried of the madding crowd of towns and cities. The poem displays intensity of passion and sweet music to the full.
