Indian civilization and Culture Summary in English
The civilization of India cannot be vanquished at any cost. All other Civilizations have expired or become westernized or are not in their past splendor. But India is steadfast and is continuing her stupendous magnificence. Many thrust their suggestions on India but her negation has maintained her glory.
According to Gandhiji, civilization is the way of conduction that guides us to do our duty. Performing duty is virtue itself and so is following morality. Observing morality is gaining victory over our cravings. India is already acquainted with this truth and so there is nothing for India to learn. Our mind is greedy it always remains unsatisfied and its desires never come to an end.
The Indian civilization promotes the dignity of being but Western Civilization promotes dissipative people. Gandhiji says that the only thing he had learned from Modern civilization is that we should keep away from it. Modern Civilization means worship of materialism. This Civilization mainly focuses on the material it suits only the west. The Western Civilization instigates us towards unlimited cravings but eastern Civilization keeps a strict command on wants.
Modern inventions give us transient pleasure and we under the influence of the west, are in danger of exchanging good with transitory happiness. Indian Civilization has not the credit of the trifling inventions but it has the credit of the foundation of the soul and the spirit. We are dazzled by western civilization. Indian civilization has Seen the fall of many ancient civilizations but it never tried to copy any other. Copying the west means ruining our Civilization which is still in its Glory.
The Europeans now have become slaves of comfort and luxuries as their master. Plain living and high thinking should be our motto. It is in vain to run after high living. Civilization basically means promoting happiness, joy, and the capability of service.
Lastly, Gandhiji says that physical comfort is necessary but only to a certain extent. If you believe in multiplying, our needs are fulfilled.

गांधीजी के अनुसार, सभ्यता आचरण का वह तरीका है जो हमें अपना कर्तव्य करने के लिए मार्गदर्शन करता है। कर्तव्य का पालन करना ही पुण्य है और ऐसा ही नैतिकता का पालन करना है। नैतिकता का पालन करना हमारी लालसा पर विजय प्राप्त कर रहा है। भारत इस सच्चाई से पहले से ही परिचित है और इसलिए भारत के पास सीखने के लिए कुछ नहीं है। हमारा मन लालची है वह हमेशा असंतुष्ट रहता है और उसकी इच्छाएं कभी खत्म नहीं होती हैं।
हमारे पूर्वजों ने अपने जुनून पर नियंत्रण रखा और खुश और संतुष्ट रहे। हमारे पूर्वजों ने हमें विलासिता के पीछे भागने से मना किया था। वे जानते थे कि हम अपने हाथों और पैरों के इस्तेमाल से खुश और स्वस्थ रह सकते हैं। वे शहरों को पसंद नहीं करते थे क्योंकि वे जानते थे कि वेश्यावृत्ति और शोषण होगा। वे जानते थे कि धन ज्ञान से हीन है। हमारे पूर्वज शांति से स्वतंत्र जीवन जीते थे और सच्चे गृह शासन का आनंद लेते थे।
भारतीय सभ्यता अस्तित्व की गरिमा को बढ़ावा देती है लेकिन पश्चिमी सभ्यता विलुप्त लोगों को बढ़ावा देती है। गांधीजी कहते हैं कि उन्होंने आधुनिक सभ्यता से केवल यही सीखा है कि हमें इससे दूर रहना चाहिए। आधुनिक सभ्यता का अर्थ है भौतिकवाद की पूजा। यह सभ्यता मुख्य रूप से उस सामग्री पर केंद्रित है जो इसे केवल पश्चिम के अनुकूल बनाती है। पश्चिमी सभ्यता हमें असीमित लालसाओं के लिए उकसाती है लेकिन पूर्वी सभ्यता इच्छाओं पर सख्त नियंत्रण रखती है।
आधुनिक आविष्कार हमें क्षणिक सुख देते हैं और हम पश्चिम के प्रभाव में क्षणिक सुख के साथ अच्छे के आदान-प्रदान के खतरे में हैं। भारतीय सभ्यता को तुच्छ आविष्कारों का श्रेय नहीं है, बल्कि आत्मा और आत्मा की नींव का श्रेय है। हम पश्चिमी सभ्यता से चकाचौंध हैं। भारतीय सभ्यता ने कई प्राचीन सभ्यताओं का पतन देखा है लेकिन इसने कभी किसी अन्य की नकल करने की कोशिश नहीं की। पश्चिम की नकल करने का मतलब है हमारी सभ्यता को बर्बाद करना जो अभी भी अपनी महिमा में है।
यूरोपीय अब अपने स्वामी के रूप में आराम और विलासिता के दास बन गए हैं। सादा जीवन और उच्च विचार हमारा सिद्धांत होना चाहिए। उच्च जीवन के पीछे भागना व्यर्थ है। सभ्यता का मूल रूप से अर्थ खुशी, आनंद और सेवा की क्षमता को बढ़ावा देना है।
अंत में, गांधीजी कहते हैं कि शारीरिक आराम आवश्यक है लेकिन एक निश्चित सीमा तक ही। यदि आप गुणा करने में विश्वास करते हैं, तो हमारी जरूरतें पूरी होती हैं।
